Currently serves as Assistant Chief of Harris County Fire Marshal???s Office, in Houston, Texas. B.S. Criminal Justice (Honors), and M.A. in Criminal Justice Leadership Management. Master TCOLE officer, Master TCFP, and Certified FM,, I have had the honor of serving in various capacities over the years, fulfilling roles of patrol, operational assignments, supervisory, and command staff. Each of those required strong communication skills to successfully interact with fellow members and most important, the customers we know as citizens. In order to manage the operations of a department, you must have a solid working knowledge of operations, budget, and the personnel needed to manage, as well as a keen understanding of the customers??? needs. In addition I am a published author, guest editor and guest speaker, serve on many committees for law enforcement and fire services. Current assignments include President Texas Fire Marshal???s Association, Immediate Past President of Houston Area Police Chiefs Association, and serves on committees for Texas Police Chiefs Association, International Association of Police Chiefs, Texas Fire Marshal???s Association, and National Fire Protection Association.

  • The faculty possesses 8 years of professional experience in Emergency Management and Homeland Security program development and professional development. The faculty is engaged in technical assistance to the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and is an active Red Cross volunteer. The faculty is the Co-PI on RAPID NSF grant related to Hurricane Harvey preparedness and resilience. In addition, the faculty has received both The Academic Community Engagement Award as well as Service Award from the College of Criminal Justice at SHSU(2016 and 2017). Recent publications include studies on Emergency Management and Homeland Security at Institutions of Higher Education, Academic Engagement in Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and comparative issues in Homeland Security and Emergency Management. The faculty has presented papers on Emergency Management and Homeland Security at international, national, and regional conferences (both professional and academic). The faculty was a panelist on the 2017 Natural Disaster Workshop related to school and campus safety and risk-reduction. In addition, the faculty has been involved in SHSU planning and preparedness to include coordination and engaging graduate students in University safety and security productions, exercise development, KatSafe design, and EOC design. In addition, the faculty is engaged in a multi-disciplinary (Security Studies, Nursing, Athletics) Triage exercise.
