  • Peter Roussel today fulfills the Philip G. Warner Endowed Chair in the Department of Mass Communication at Sam Houston State University. From 1981-87 Mr. Roussel served in the White House under President Reagan as special assistant and deputy press secretary. His duties as a spokesperson for the president included briefings of the White House press corps and accompanying President Reagan on domestic and foreign trips, including the historic summit meetings with Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev at Geneva in 1985 and Iceland in 1986. On Mr. Roussel's first day in the Reagan White House he was assigned to handle media relations and serve as press spokesperson for the historic nomination of Sandra Day O'Connor as Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. From 1969-74 Mr. Roussel served as press secretary to President George H.W. Bush in his positions as U.S. Congressman, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Chairman of the Republican National Committee. From 1974-6 Mr. Roussel fulfilled his first tour of duty in the White House as staff assistant to President Ford. Mr. Roussel has also had an extensive career as a public relations executive and as a broadcast commentator, having appeared on CNN, ABC World News, Charlie Rose Show and others. He is the author of the novel, Ruffled Flourishes, with his theatrical play adaptation of this having had its world premiere performances in August 2016 at Sam Houston State University.

  • Have been responsible for recording SHSU university athletic home events, and some local high school home events for presentation on cable 7 from Fall 2005-present.Personally built the cable TV operation at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and University of Texas at Arlington during my tenure at those universities.
  • Have been a member of the Texas Assoc. of Broadcasters, the Kansas Assoc. of Broadcasters, the Broadcast Education Assoc. and the Texas Faculty Assoc.Held 1st Class license from the FCC from 1972 until it was abolished. Now holds the "General" license.
  • Held the position of Director of Radio/TV 1991-'98 TAMUK
  • 2016-2017 Voiced the audio version of the novel "Anne Bonny's Wake" by Dick Elam, Brown Books. With colleague Ruth Massingill, we researched the Texas Prison Music Program, producing a presentation for the Texas Folklore Society. It was subsequently included in their annual publication (2017). Have produced numerous television programs (numbering in the hundreds) for cable over the past 25 years. Received a regional Cindy Award for original music soundtrack on "Knowledge is Power" HIV project, 2014.
